The Jarama, named for the famed bullfighting region in Spain, was developed from a redesign of the Islero in order to meet US safety and emissions regulations.
It had a 6 year production run between and with a total of built. The Jalpa, built from to , also drew it's name from a famous breed of fighting bulls. The Lamborghini Diablo, named for an infamous fighting bull, enjoyed a production run of 11 years between and that included six generational revisions and sold units. The Murcielago designation was derived from the Navarro fighting bull, Murcielago, that was spared by the matador after surviving 28 sword strokes during a bullfight in Murceilago was subsequently brought to Miura's ranch and introduced into the bloodline by bredding him with 70 of their cows.
The Murcielago was in production from through with a total run of 4, cars. The Reventon was also named after a famous bull that killed Felix Guzman during a bullfight in Mexico in The Reventon was only produced for a year between and His love of fast cars manifested in a patronage of Ferrari and later in building his own. Ferruccio had already chosen the bull as Lamborghini's emblem after his star sign Taurus, the bull, but initially the names he gave to his cars were very conventional combinations of letters and numbers, representing displacement and body type.
Soon, however, Ferruccio turned once again to bulls. Inspired by a visit to a ranch in Spain owned by a man named Miura , Lamborghini's first mid-engined supercar -- and arguably the world's first -- was named after said man and the bulls that were bred there. Further revisions to the GT created the GT in Italian engineer Gian Paulo Dallara tweaked the V12, increasing its displacement to 3. Early Miuras were powered by a transversely mounted bhp 3.

Even though Ferruccio Lamborghini believed the car represented a well-developed Gran Turismo product, it failed to attract buyers with only units sold between and The following year, design house Bertone persuaded Lamborghini to allow them to design a brand new four-seater.
A total of 1, Espadas were built, making it the most successful Lamborghini model at the time. Another Marcello Gandini-designed car, the Jarama was built on a shortened platform of the Espada and was available in two flavours — a bhp GT and bhp GTS , both with the familiar cc V12 unit shoehorned in the nose.
