Klein William R. Wilson Stephen Wolfram H. Realism is the view that a "reality" of material objects, and possibly of abstract concepts, exists in an external world independently of our minds and perceptions. Historically, realism is a metaphysical claim about this independently existing world.
Since Aristotle 's Metaphysics , two kinds of questions ontological and epistemological are raised - what exists, and how can we know what exists. The ontological status of abstract concepts is a completely different question from the ontology of concrete material objects, though these questions have often been confounded in the history of philosophy.
Information philosophy provides distinct answers to these two ontological questions. Material objects exist in the world of space and time. This then is his transfigured realism , which, as far as what is known goes, is idealism, but as far as what exists goes, realism - of a sort.

A tendency to face facts and be practical rather than imaginative or visionary. The representation in art or literature of objects, actions, or social conditions as they actually are, without idealization or presentation in abstract form.
The Matrix constantly deals with the ideas of realism and anti-realism. It takes its inspiration from one of the most famous critiques of realism, namely the possibility that everything we see might be a dream, an illusion, or a simulation.
However, The Matrix is arguably more of a realist film since human beings are capable of escaping from the illusion into a gritty reality. Some idealists would argue that we cannot escape the illusions or see around them because the very act of perception depends on ideas rather than objects see section 2.
Morality and beauty are just words. Reality exists outside of the mind. The purpose of art is to depict reality as accurately as possible. All of the above. The Revenant. The Matrix.
